How to Unlock Caldarus as a Romanceable Character in Fields of Mistria

To initiate a romantic relationship with Caldarus in Fields of Mistria, you must first break the Fire Seal located on Floor 60 of the mines. To do this, you'll need to offer four specific items: a Sealing Scroll, a Faceted Rock Gem, an Emerald, and a Rockroot. Upon completing the offering, a dramatic cutscene will unfold where the Mines Priestess warns of the dangers of lingering, threatening to seal you with the Scroll. As your character's health dwindles, Caldarus dramatically intervenes, transforming into his human form, gifting you the Dragon’s Breath spell, and then retreating to the Deep Woods.

Once Caldarus has taken his human form, you'll be able to interact with him daily, much like with other romanceable NPCs in Mistria. To continue your journey, use the Dragon’s Breath spell to permanently unlock his temple in the Deep Woods on your map, where he'll reside.

Caldarus’ Heart Events in Fields of Mistria

With the March 2025 update, Caldarus begins his romance journey at six hearts, which is currently the maximum heart level. Unfortunately, there are no additional heart events available for Caldarus at this time, but future updates from NPC Studio are expected to expand on this.

Currently, the narrative includes a few pivotal cutscenes with Caldarus. The first is a dream sequence at the game's outset, introducing Mistria’s magical elements and gameplay mechanics. The second occurs after you break the Fire Seal, where Caldarus heroically saves you from being sealed, revealing his human form before retreating to recover in the Deep Woods.

Post-update, a special date can be triggered with Caldarus during the Shooting Star Festival on Summer 28.

The Shooting Star Festival

The Shooting Star Festival marks the end of summer in Fields of Mistria, offering a chance to take any romanceable character with at least four hearts on a date to the Summit to enjoy the celestial display. With Caldarus starting at six hearts, you're all set to attend this event with him. To secure your date, gift him the Star Brooch before 8 PM on Summer 28 and meet up afterwards to start the festival. During your date at the Summit, Caldarus will express gratitude for the invitation, share insights into the stars, and delve into the ancient Mistrian tradition of Starbinding. Your dialogue choices will explore themes of soul connections and the necessity of antagonists in stories, hinting at deeper lore. As the night winds down, Caldarus, feeling fatigued, invites you to continue watching the stars from his temple.
