Avowed: A Solo Fantasy Adventure – No Multiplayer in Sight

Avowed has been compared to both Skyrim and Obsidian's own The Outer Worlds, but one key difference sets it apart: it's a strictly single-player experience. Despite initial plans, Avowed does not feature multiplayer functionality of any kind – no co-op, no PvP, and no invasion modes.

While companions will assist you on your journey, these are all non-player characters (NPCs), similar to the structure of The Outer Worlds. All enemies, regardless of strength, are AI-controlled.

The Absence of Multiplayer: A Development Decision

Obsidian Entertainment initially considered incorporating co-op into Avowed, even using it as a selling point for investors. However, this feature was ultimately cut during development, with the studio citing a desire to focus their resources elsewhere. There are currently no plans to add multiplayer capabilities post-launch.

The Co-op Mod Question

While a PC mod offering co-op functionality is theoretically possible, nothing of the sort has been announced. Even if a mod were to emerge, it would likely be a significant undertaking, and would not be an official addition from Obsidian.
