Atelier Yumia: Guide to Memory Alchemy and Land Synthesis

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 21,2025

One of the most intricate aspects of *Atelier Yumia: The Alchemist of Memories & the Envisioned Land* is the Synthesis mechanic, which is deeply intertwined with every element of the game. From resources you gather to weapons you craft, mastering Synthesis is crucial. Here's how to optimize your Synthesis skills for the best results.

Synthesis Types in Atelier Yumia

Synthesis Types in Atelier Yumia

In *Atelier Yumia*, there are three distinct types of Synthesis:

  • Regular Synthesis: Performed at an Alchemist’s altar, this is used to craft weapons, armor, battle accessories, magical items, and materials. You start with access to the Atelier, where you can return anytime to Synthesize. In buildable areas like cleared manabound zones and campsites, you can construct a Simple Altar for regular Synthesis.
  • Simple Synthesis: Accessible anytime outside of battle through the radial menu, this allows you to craft items like bandages, gauntlets for ziplines, and various repair kits for treasure chests, ladders, and more, provided you have the necessary resources.
  • Building Synthesis: Available through the radial menu in specific plots of land, this involves creating storage chests and wall hangings. Though not explicitly labeled as Synthesis, it's referred to as such in the story, so keep that in mind.

How to Synthesize Equipment in Atelier Yumia

Regular Synthesis at altars is the most complex form. To craft, say, a gun staff for Yumia, you first need to find the recipe while exploring. You can upgrade your recipes using particles from mana fountains at a Recipe Recall Station. Here’s the process at an Alchemist’s altar:

  1. Choose the type of gun staff you want to create.
  2. Select Synthesis Skills (if available in the skill tree).
  3. Choose the initial Alchemy Core to build upon:
    • Effects Alchemy Core enhances the selected skills.
    • Quality Alchemy Core boosts the item's quality level.
    • Trait Alchemy Core increases the number of Trait Crystal slots you can use.
  4. Fill the slots of each Alchemy Core with your collected resources.
  5. Try to collect mana fragments to further increase the item's quality.
  6. Complete the process to Synthesize the item.

To craft powerful items early in the game, unlock Synthesis Skills from the skill tree as soon as possible. These skills will enhance the damage and quality of your items, and allow you to duplicate items to conserve resources.

To maximize item quality, add resources to all three Alchemy Cores. Use the left or right bumper to navigate between cores while filling slots. Collecting mana fragments (yellow sparkles around the core) for all three cores significantly boosts the item's strength, which is essential for most items except quest-specific ones.

Additionally, use resources that match the element type of specific slots, identified by a blue outline. You can organize your resources in the submenu to prioritize higher-quality ones, though focusing on effects might be more beneficial at times.

If the complexity of Synthesis feels overwhelming, opt for the auto-Synthesis feature after selecting your Synthesis Skills. The game excels at crafting optimal items this way, enabling you to conquer even the final boss on Normal difficulty without much hassle.

And that's everything you need to know to master the Synthesis mechanic in *Atelier Yumia*.
