Astro Bot: A Platforming Phenomenon Crowned with 104 Game of the Year Awards

Team Asobi's Astro Bot has achieved a remarkable feat, surpassing all other platformers to become the most awarded in history, boasting an impressive 104 Game of the Year accolades. This surpasses the previous record holder, It Takes Two, by a significant 16 awards.

Initially launched in September 2024, Astro Bot, an expansion of the popular PS5 tech demo Astro's Playroom, quickly garnered critical acclaim, becoming the highest-rated new game release of the year. Its success culminated in a triumphant win at The Game Awards 2024, securing the coveted Game of the Year award.

However, the story doesn't end there. As highlighted by NextGenPlayer on Twitter, referencing gamefa.com's Game of the Year Award Tracker, Astro Bot's total Game of the Year wins currently stand at 104. While this is a monumental achievement, it still falls short of the accolades received by industry giants like Baldur's Gate 3 (288 wins), The Last of Us Part II (326 wins), and Elden Ring (435 wins), the current record holder for most awarded game overall.

Despite this, Astro Bot's commercial success is undeniable. By November 2024, it had sold over 1.5 million copies—a remarkable feat considering its relatively small development team (under 70 developers) and likely moderate budget. The game's success has undoubtedly elevated Astro Bot to a major PlayStation franchise. The title's impact extends beyond sales figures; its critical acclaim and numerous awards solidify its place as a landmark achievement in platforming game history.
