Assassin’s Creed Shadows: Max Level and Rank Cap Revealed

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 12,2025

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* stands out as one of the most expansive titles in the franchise, featuring a sophisticated progression system that enhances its vast scale. Here's a detailed look at the maximum levels in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows* and how the level cap operates.

What Is the Max XP Level in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* introduces a revamped progression system, blending traditional XP-based growth with a new Knowledge Ranks system. XP progression in the game allows players to unlock higher-tier weapons, armor, and gear, as well as enhance the base stats of protagonists Naoe and Yasuke.

To fully explore all the Japanese provinces on the game's map, players need to reach Level 35. However, the XP grind doesn't stop there. Initially, Ubisoft suggested a Level Cap of 40, but players can actually push their levels up to 60. It's anticipated that this cap might increase further with the upcoming *Claws of Awaji* expansion for *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*.

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, the Knowledge Rank system marks a significant evolution in the franchise's progression mechanics. Distinct from XP leveling, Knowledge Ranks are advanced by accumulating Knowledge Points through various open-world activities focused on mindfulness and training. As players advance through these ranks, new skills become available for Naoe and Yasuke, though these skills must be unlocked using Mastery Points.

To access all available skills, players must reach Knowledge Rank 6. However, this isn't the end of the journey. Upon reaching this rank, a new Knowledge tree unlocks, offering additional passive skills that allow players to further tailor their gameplay style.

Is There a Cap for Mastery in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Mastery represents the third pillar of progression in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, functioning as the game's skill points. These points are essential for unlocking new skills across the six Mastery trees available for each protagonist. The cost in Mastery Points varies among skills, with some requiring more to unlock.

While there's a vast array of skills to unlock, players can earn Mastery Points through a wide range of in-game activities. Although it's theoretically possible to reach a limit on Mastery Points, achieving this would require extensive gameplay. The *Claws of Awaji* expansion, set to release later in 2025, is expected to introduce new methods for earning Mastery Points.

Does Assassin’s Creed Shadows Have Level Scaling?

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, each Japanese province has an associated level. At the game's outset, the highest level requirement is for Kii, set at Level 35. As players advance and gain XP, the levels of certain regions will adjust to match their progress.

However, there's a cap on how high enemy and province difficulty levels can scale beyond Level 40. From Level 42 onwards, the recommended level for each province remains two levels below the player's current XP level. This system ensures that the game remains challenging and maintains a balanced combat pace in the endgame, rewarding dedicated players who invest significant time into the game.

*Assassin’s Creed Shadows is available now on PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.*
