Assassin's Creed Games Ranked: A Tier List

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 29,2025

The latest addition to Ubisoft's renowned series of stealth-action open-world games, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, has finally made its debut. But where does it stand among its predecessors? We invite you to weigh in on this. With over 30 games under the Assassin’s Creed banner, our focus here is solely on the "mainline games," excluding mobile, side-scrolling, VR entries, and spin-offs like Bloodlines or Liberation.

The journey began in 2007 with Desmond Miles stepping into the Animus to embody his ancestor Altaïr. Fast forward 18 years, and we find ourselves in 16th-century Japan, controlling Naoe and Yasuke in the 14th installment of the core series. I've taken the liberty of ranking these games based on my personal enjoyment, using an IGN Tier List. Here's a glimpse at my rankings:

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remains my top pick, cherished for its blend of island exploration, ship combat, and vibrant characters, offering what I believe is the quintessential AC experience. It shares the S-tier with Assassin’s Creed 2, the game that truly propelled the series into the spotlight. In the A-tier, I've placed Valhalla, which might surprise some, but I thoroughly enjoyed its Viking-inspired combat and the addictive Orlog minigame. Joining it is Unity, whose depiction of French Revolution-era Paris remains breathtaking even a decade on.

Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you find Valhalla too expansive or believe Assassin’s Creed 2 is overrated? You have the opportunity to create your own tier list below, categorizing the mainline AC games into S, A, B, C, and D tiers, and compare your rankings with the IGN community.
