Summary

  • Windows 11 update caused issues with two Assassin's Creed games.
  • Fixes issued for AC Origins & Valhalla, but Odyssey may still have problems.

Assassin's Creed enthusiasts who encountered difficulties launching their games after a Windows update can now breathe a sigh of relief. Ubisoft has released patches to resolve these issues for two of their popular titles. However, some Ubisoft games might still be experiencing lingering issues.

Windows frequently rolls out updates, and the 24H2 update for Windows 11 brought a host of new features, including Wi-Fi 7 support, enhanced energy-saving modes, and AI Copilot+ PC capabilities. Yet, following the release of this update, some gamers found that certain games, including those from the Assassin's Creed series, either wouldn't start or were not functioning correctly. Thankfully, the newly released fixes should resolve these issues for two Ubisoft titles.

Ubisoft has confirmed that both Assassin's Creed Origins and Assassin's Creed Valhalla have been updated to address the problems stemming from the Windows 11 24H2 update. These updates should automatically download via Steam, allowing players to enjoy their games without further hiccups. It's important for users to ensure they have enough storage space; the patch for Origins requires 230 MB, while Valhalla's update needs 500 MB.

Windows Update 24H2 Is Still Plaguing Some Ubisoft Games

The exact cause within the Windows update that led to malfunctions in some Ubisoft games remains unclear. While fans are relieved to see fixes for Origins and Valhalla, there's still discontent among players as other games, such as Assassin's Creed Odyssey, have yet to receive a similar patch. Odyssey users report the game either becoming unresponsive or failing to function altogether. Although Ubisoft's previous hotfixes have addressed significant issues in Star Wars: Outlaws and Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, some performance problems might persist. Fans of Assassin's Creed Odyssey might want to delay updating to Windows 11 until a fix is available for their game.

While the situation is improving, it's disappointing that these issues arose in the first place. Players started noticing problems with various games when the Windows 24H2 update preview was released five months earlier, yet these issues weren't fully resolved before the official rollout. This is particularly concerning given Microsoft's push for Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11 as soon as possible. Fortunately, most games appear to have escaped unscathed from the update's impact.
