This week, the Pocket Gamer App Army tackled A Fragile Mind, a recently released puzzle adventure from Glitch Games. The game, a twist on the classic escape room formula with added humor, received a mixed but engaging response from our community.

Here's what our App Army had to say:

Initially, the game's icon led me to believe it would be rather dull. However, A Fragile Mind proved to be surprisingly unique and engaging. The puzzles are challenging but rewarding, making it one of the best puzzle games I've played recently. I highly recommend playing it on a tablet for the best experience.

This point-and-click adventure features static, pre-rendered graphics. While the overarching narrative remains somewhat unclear, the gameplay unfolds across multiple floors of a building, each presenting a series of increasingly complex puzzles. Interestingly, you don't need to solve every puzzle on a floor to progress, and some puzzles require items obtained on subsequent floors. The game incorporates clever fourth-wall breaks, such as descriptions of items stating their graphics lack detail. While the hint system is generous, perhaps a bit too generous, it proved helpful, especially on the more challenging later levels. The puzzles themselves are generally intuitive, though the navigation could feel a bit disorienting at times, particularly when moving between interconnected rooms and corridors. Despite this minor drawback, A Fragile Mind is a solid example of the genre.

A Fragile Mind is a first-person puzzle adventure where you awaken in a building's garden with amnesia. Exploration, photography, and object discovery are key to solving the puzzles and progressing through the game. While the graphics and sound are unremarkable, they are functional. The puzzles presented a significant challenge, occasionally requiring walkthrough assistance. The game's brevity, however, limits replayability. Still, puzzle adventure fans will find it worthwhile.

As a fan of escape-room style puzzle games, I was disappointed by A Fragile Mind. The muddy presentation hindered puzzle identification, and poor UI design, particularly the menu button's placement, added to the frustration. The pacing felt off; the abundance of early puzzles led to disorientation and early reliance on the hint system.

I'm not usually a fan of puzzle games due to their difficulty and often underwhelming payoff. However, A Fragile Mind pleasantly surprised me. I appreciated the aesthetic, atmosphere, intriguing puzzles, and helpful hint system. Overall, it's a good, albeit short, experience, well worth the price.

A Fragile Mind is a whirlwind of puzzles. The game throws a multitude of interconnected clues and puzzles at you, demanding simultaneous problem-solving. Note-taking is crucial! The game features excellent visual and audio options, strong accessibility, and a healthy dose of humor. Even experienced puzzle solvers will find it a rewarding (though relatively short) challenge.
