Tony Gilroy on Andor Stars' Emmy Snubs

Author:Kristen Update:Dec 06,2025

The Emmy nominations were announced yesterday, sparking intense debate among audiences about which shows and performers were honored for their outstanding work and which were overlooked. Everyone has their own thoughts, including Andor creator Tony Gilroy, who recently shared his perspective on key actors from his own series who he believes should have been recognized.

"There are many performances I wish had been acknowledged," Gilroy told Deadline regarding his Disney+ series. "Diego Luna and Genevieve O’Reilly are just two examples. There are at least a dozen standout performances."

For Gilroy, actors like Luna and O’Reilly form the emotional core of the series, bringing the complex character arcs from the script to vivid life—and their work will undoubtedly become legendary, regardless of award nominations.

"These are not just great scene-by-scene performances," Gilroy remarked about the overlooked actors, as well as others he felt deserved recognition. "They represent epic, long-term character explorations developed across 24 episodes. The real triumph is that these performances will be celebrated and analyzed for years to come. I'm confident of that."

Overall, Andor received 14 Emmy nominations this year, making it the third-most nominated Star Wars series to date. The Mandalorian's first and second seasons hold the top two spots with 24 and 15 nominations, respectively.

Luna stars as Cassian Andor, while O’Reilly portrays Mon Mothma, a role she first took on in 2005’s Revenge of the Sith. While her scenes were ultimately cut from that film, she later returned as Mon Mothma in 2016’s Rogue One and 2023’s Ahsoka. She also voiced the character in the 2017 animated series Star Wars Rebels.

Andor made its debut on Disney+ in September 2022. The second and final season wrapped up a nearly three-year production cycle, premiering in late April 2025.
