The Last of Us Part 2 PC Port Will Require PSN Account

The Last of Us Part II Remastered's PC release on April 3, 2025, necessitates a PlayStation Network (PSN) account, sparking controversy among potential players. This requirement, also present in previous PC ports of PlayStation exclusives, forces users to create or link a PSN account, a move met with considerable backlash in the past.

While Sony's expansion into the PC market with titles like The Last of Us Part II Remastered is welcomed, the PSN account mandate is a contentious point. The Steam page clearly states this requirement, allowing players to link existing PSN accounts. However, the lack of online functionality in the single-player Last of Us Part II makes this requirement seem arbitrary. It's speculated that Sony aims to encourage PSN adoption among PC gamers, a strategy previously challenged by player resistance, notably resulting in the removal of the PSN requirement from Helldivers 2.

While a basic PSN account is free, the added step of account creation or linking presents a minor inconvenience. Furthermore, PSN's global availability is limited, potentially excluding some players. This restriction contrasts with the accessibility focus often associated with The Last of Us franchise, potentially alienating a segment of the player base. The situation highlights the ongoing tension between Sony's business goals and player preferences regarding account requirements for its PC ports.
