Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana presents numerous challenging boss encounters, but the initial confrontation with Dularn, The Creeping Shadow, often proves a significant hurdle for players. This first major boss fight represents a considerable difficulty spike. While initially daunting, mastering Dularn's attack patterns makes this battle surprisingly manageable.

How to Defeat Dularn in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana

The fight begins with Dularn encased in a protective barrier, rendering him invulnerable. The key is to survive his attacks until the barrier dissipates, creating an opportunity to inflict damage. Dularn's health varies based on the chosen difficulty setting. While players can temporarily retreat to regroup, defeating Dularn is mandatory to progress.

Maintain a safe distance from Dularn while his barrier is active; contact will inflict damage. Attempting to attack during this phase will likely result in defeat.

Dularn's Sword Attacks

Dularn unleashes various sword attacks:

  • A volley of swords descending from above.
  • An X-shaped formation of swords homing in on the player.
  • A straight line of swords thrust towards the player.

To counter these, utilize a combination of wide circling movements and well-timed jumps. Circling evades the first two attacks effectively, while jumping is crucial for avoiding the straight line assault.

Dularn's Energy Blasts

Dularn employs two energy-based attacks:

Fireballs

Dodge these fireballs by strategically moving between them or jumping over individual projectiles. Combining movement and jumps maximizes evasion.

Arcing Slash

This large blue energy slash requires a precise jump to avoid completely, as there are no safe gaps. This attack often precedes Dularn's vulnerability, signaling the opportunity to strike.

Mastering Dularn's attack patterns is key to victory; grinding for higher levels isn't necessary.

Rewards for Vanquishing Dularn in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana

Defeating Dularn grants access to the Ignis Bracelet, a magical bracelet enabling fireball attacks, quickly becoming a valuable asset throughout the game.
