WB Cancels Unannounced Hogwarts Legacy Paid DLC

Author:Kristen Update:May 15,2025

According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has decided to cancel an unannounced paid DLC for its popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned story expansion was slated to launch this year, coinciding with the release of a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel the DLC was made this week, reportedly due to concerns that the content did not justify the proposed price, as per Bloomberg's sources. Warner Bros. did not respond to Bloomberg's request for comment on this matter.

This move comes as Warner Bros. continues to restructure its gaming division amid financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company made the tough decision to cancel its anticipated Wonder Woman game, resulting in the closure of Monolith Productions, the studio behind the project. Additionally, WB San Diego and the MultiVersus developer, Player First Games, were also shut down. The restructuring efforts extended to layoffs at Rocksteady Studios just last September.

Despite the cancellation of the Hogwarts Legacy DLC, Warner Bros. has emphasized that both the game and the Harry Potter franchise remain key assets. The company has publicly stated that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is among its top priorities, as it shifts focus towards developing fewer but more significant franchises. The original Hogwarts Legacy has achieved remarkable success, selling over 30 million copies.
