New World of Warcraft Video Explains Feast of Winter Veil Lore

World of Warcraft's Feast of Winter Veil: A Lore-Filled Holiday Celebration

The World of Warcraft (WoW) Feast of Winter Veil, WoW's take on Christmas, returns annually with unique rewards and festive items. A new lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, delves into the holiday's rich history.

This engaging video explores the event's origins, weaving together Dwarven myths featuring Greatfather Winter—a Titan-forged giant who brings the snow—and Tauren traditions of spiritual renewal and gratitude to the Earthmother. The video also humorously highlights the commercialization of Winter Veil by Smokeywood Pastures, a Goblin enterprise mirroring real-world Christmas practices.

The Legend of Metzen the Reindeer

No Winter Veil story is complete without mentioning Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Warcraft creative director Chris Metzen. This unfortunate reindeer has a history of kidnappings: pirates and Dark Iron dwarves in Classic WoW, and even the Grinch in the modern game. The video concludes with a humorous nod to Metzen, with Metzen the Reindeer expressing gratitude in Thrall's voice (a fitting tribute, as Metzen voiced the Orc Shaman).

A Successful Collaboration

This isn't PlatinumWoW's first collaboration with Blizzard. Previous projects include lore videos on Nerubians, Vrykul, and the Scourge for Wrath of the Lich King Classic, World Trees and Blackrock Depths for modern WoW, and support videos for events like Season of Discovery and Plunderstorm. This partnership, alongside others like Taliesin & Evitel's returning player guides and Hurricane's cinematic trailers, showcases Blizzard's ongoing commitment to content creator collaborations.

Join the Festivities!

Players can still partake in the Feast of Winter Veil until January 5th, 2024. This year's highlights include a tamable Dreaming Festive Reindeer for Hunters, new holiday transmogs, and the Grunch pet. Don't forget to check under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special gift, reminiscent of last year's Junior Timekeeper's Racing Belt toy.
