Best Thaddeus Thunderbolt Ross Decks in Marvel Snap

Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, the latest addition to Marvel Snap, is a 2-cost, 2-power card with a unique ability: When your opponent ends their turn with unspent energy, you draw a card with 10 or more power. While card draw is inherently powerful in Marvel Snap, Ross's effectiveness is heavily reliant on having high-power cards (10+ power) in your deck.

This ability, similar to Red Hulk and High Evolutionary effects, makes Ross a situational card. His value hinges on the presence of cards like Attuma, Black Cat, Crossbones, Cull Obsidian, Typhoid Mary, Aero, Heimdall, Helicarrier, Red Hulk, Sasquatch, She-Hulk, Skaar, Thanos (if generated), Orka, Emperor Hulkling, Hulk, Magneto, Death, Red Skull, Agatha Harkness (if generated), Giganto, Destroyer, and The Infinaut. Most decks will only include a few, if any, of these high-power cards. Therefore, Ross's inclusion is most beneficial in decks already heavily populated with these cards, leveraging deck thinning strategies. Red Guardian directly counters Ross.

Optimal Deck Synergies:

Thunderbolt Ross shines in decks designed to maximize his ability. Currently, Surtur and Hela decks are prime candidates.

  • Surtur Deck: A sample Surtur deck featuring Ross includes Zabu, Hydra Bob, Ross, Armor, Cosmo, Juggernaut, Surtur, Ares, Attuma, Crossbones, Cull Obsidian, and Skaar. This deck aims to play Surtur on turn 3, then deploy high-power cards to boost Surtur to 10 power, making Skaar free. Ross significantly improves consistency by drawing these crucial high-power cards. Note that this deck contains several Series 5 cards, making it resource-intensive to build.

  • Hela Deck: A Hela deck incorporating Ross might consist of Black Knight, Blade, Ross, Lady Sif, Ghost Rider, War Machine, Hell Cow, Black Cat, Aero, Hela, The Infinaut, and Death. The strategy here involves discarding high-power cards of varying costs to be revived by Hela on the final turn. Ross enhances this strategy by drawing the necessary high-power cards for discarding.

Is He Worth the Investment?

Currently, unless you're dedicated to Surtur or Hela decks, Thunderbolt Ross might not be a worthwhile investment if you're limited on resources. His effectiveness is contingent on future card additions to the game, increasing the pool of 10+ power cards. Furthermore, the current meta favors Wiccan decks, where opponents are less likely to leave unspent energy.
