In a recent interview with Wccftech, the developers of Tides of Annihilation from Eclipse Glow Games shed light on why their game is steeped in Arthurian legends and set in a post-apocalyptic London. Dive into the details of the game's concept and what lies ahead.

Tides of Annihilation Targets Western Audiences

The Core Concept of Arthurian Myths and Knights

At Gamescom 2024, Eclipse Glow Games, a China-based studio, discussed their game's unique approach during an interview with Wccftech. The developers revealed that the choice of a Western setting for Tides of Annihilation was influenced by their financial backer, Tencent. "This game, alongside Black Myth: Wukong, received investments from Tencent, but with different target audiences in mind. While Black Myth: Wukong caters to the Chinese market, Tides of Annihilation aims at Western players, leading us to the Arthurian legends," explained the game's producer. The narrative revolves around the iconic Knights of the Round Table, set in a modern-day London devastated by an Outworld invasion, with Gwendolyn as the last human survivor. The game blends modern settings with fantasy elements inspired by Arthurian myths.

Devil May Cry-inspired Combat and Over 30 Bosses

Tides of Annihilation's combat system draws inspiration from the classic Devil May Cry series, a fact proudly acknowledged by the developers. "Our combat is definitely more like Devil May Cry," they stated, highlighting the inclusion of difficulty selection to cater to both casual and hardcore gamers. The game offers customizable combat through various playstyles, with four weapons and over ten different Knights to choose from. Gwendolyn can command these legendary Knights to fight alongside her as they navigate the ruins of London. With over 30 bosses, each boasting unique abilities, players are in for a thrilling challenge.

Plans for an Anthology Series

Eclipse Glow Games also expressed interest in expanding Tides of Annihilation into an anthology series. They aim to explore different settings and mythologies, with each game featuring a new protagonist, while retaining the core concept of an Outworld invasion. "We hope the first game will be successful enough to pave the way for more titles and mythologies," they shared optimistically.

Currently in its beta phase, Tides of Annihilation is slated for a 2026 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players will join Gwendolyn in her quest to unravel the mysteries of the invasion and save both London and the mythical realm of Avalon, which seems to be merging with the real world.
