When to Switch Between Naoe and Yasuke in AC Shadows

Assassin's Creed Shadows introduces two fully realized protagonists - the shinobi Naoe and samurai Yasuke. However, leading up to launch, Ubisoft hasn't clearly explained when players can switch between characters. Here's a detailed breakdown of the character switching mechanics in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

Assassin's Creed Shadows' Opening Chapter Focuses on Naoe

While Assassin's Creed Shadows features a massive open world, the opening sequence maintains a linear structure. The game's prologue, lasting approximately 90 minutes, alternates between controlled segments with Naoe and Yasuke at predetermined moments. After completing the prologue, players remain locked as Naoe for several more hours of gameplay.

Players hoping to immediately experience Yasuke's samurai gameplay will need to wait. The early game exclusively focuses on Naoe's storyline, with Yasuke absent until the "Temple of the Horseman" quest. Players briefly control Yasuke during the "Fire and Lightning" quest. After completing this mission and finishing Act I, the game unlocks full flexibility to switch between protagonists.

Time Investment Required to Unlock Character Switching
