FromSoftware has recently unveiled more details about its upcoming exclusive for the Nintendo Switch 2, titled The Duskbloods. This collaboration with Nintendo has evidently influenced not only the game's style but also the design of key characters, infusing a touch of cuteness that's somewhat novel for FromSoftware.

During the Switch 2 Direct, the trailer concluded with an intriguing shot of a winged rat character adorned with glowing glyphs, sparking curiosity among fans. This character, as it turns out, serves as the hub companion in The Duskbloods, akin to the iconic fire keepers from the Dark Souls series.

In an interview with Nintendo, director Hidetaka Miyazaki explained, "That character shares a similar role with the fire keepers from the Dark Souls series. They remain in the hub area, providing the player with advice and guidance." He further elaborated on the character's design, saying, "I suppose you could say we tried doing something a little Nintendo-esque in the spirit of the partnership. We tried something cute for a change. Although I will say this character is actually an elderly gentleman (laughter)."

FromSoftware's hub characters, such as Melina, the Maiden in Black, and the Doll, have always been pivotal to the player's journey, often providing essential power-ups and guidance. With The Duskbloods being a PvPvE game, the role of the winged rat companion promises to be both unique and intriguing. Miyazaki teased that the team at FromSoft has introduced "a lot of new and interesting ideas," setting the stage for unexpected elements when the game launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
