Steam FPS Dev Imprisoned for Three Years, Game Paused

The Steam FPS game, Fortune's Run, faces an indefinite delay due to its creator's three-year prison sentence. This unique situation, unlike typical delays stemming from financial or technical issues, leaves the early access title in limbo.

Prior to this news, Fortune's Run enjoyed positive reception on Steam, lauded for its nostalgic art style and engaging gameplay. However, all development is now halted until the sole developer, Dizzie, completes their sentence, beginning February 2025. While the specific crime remains undisclosed, Dizzie acknowledged a violent past preceding the game's development. This situation, although unusual in game development, highlights the unpredictable nature of the industry.

Development Suspended Until 2028

Initially, Fortune's Run had a second team member, but their departure following a surgery and disinterest in game development left Dizzie as the sole developer. The game's Steam page still targets a 2026 release from early access, a goal now highly improbable. While lengthy early access periods are common for indie games (Satisfactory took over five years), a three-year delay, potentially extending to 2028, is now a realistic expectation.

Dizzie expressed confidence in completing the game upon release from prison. The current early access version remains playable, and players seeking similar titles can explore other early access shooters available on Steam.
