Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles Reveals Another New Character

Aspyr's upcoming release of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles for modern consoles features a surprising playable character: Jar Jar Binks. A new trailer showcases Binks wielding a staff in action-packed gameplay.

This isn't the only addition to the original 2000 release. Aspyr is significantly expanding the roster of playable characters. Beyond the initially unexpected Binks, nine other new characters have been revealed, with more promised. The new additions aim to capitalize on the nostalgia of the original game while providing fresh content. Features like customizable lightsaber colors and cheat code support further enhance the experience.

The newly unveiled trailer highlights Jar Jar Binks' chaotic fighting style, utilizing a large staff rather than a lightsaber, and incorporating his signature comedic voice lines. While some fans might have envisioned a more villainous "Darth Jar Jar" interpretation, this version remains true to the character's clumsy nature.

The expanded character list includes a diverse range of fighters:

  • Jar Jar Binks
  • Rodian
  • Flame Droid
  • Gungan Guard
  • Destroyer Droid
  • Ishi Tib
  • Rifle Droid
  • Staff Tusken Raider
  • Weequay
  • Mercenary

This diverse selection, featuring droids, various alien species, and even a Gungan Guard alongside Jar Jar Binks, promises a richer and more varied gameplay experience. The inclusion of familiar faces like the Staff Tusken Raider and Rodian adds to the game's appeal for long-time fans.

Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles launches on January 23rd, offering players the chance to experience these new additions firsthand. Aspyr's previous work remastering classic Star Wars titles, such as Star Wars: Bounty Hunter, suggests a potential for a well-executed update that satisfies both nostalgia and modern gaming expectations. Pre-orders are available now.
