Sony Unveils PS5 Theme Update: Joy and Disappointment Intertwined

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 23,2025

Sony's popular PlayStation console themes for PS5 are disappearing! The limited-time PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 themes will be unavailable as of January 31, 2025. However, Sony has confirmed their return in the coming months, promising a future release.

In a recent tweet, Sony expressed gratitude for the overwhelmingly positive reception to the nostalgic themes. The company stated that they are currently working to bring these designs back.

Thank you for the enthusiastic response to the classic PlayStation, PS2, PS3, and PS4 limited-time console themes. They'll be unavailable starting tomorrow. We're working to bring these special designs back in the coming months.

While this is welcome news for fans, Sony also announced that there are currently no plans to develop additional themes beyond these four classic console designs. This statement generated significant disappointment among users who had hoped for more theme options on the PS5.

While we aren't planning additional themes, we're thrilled to continue celebrating PlayStation's legacy with you.

The temporary themes, released to commemorate PlayStation's 30th anniversary on December 3, 2024, allowed PS5 users to customize their consoles with imagery and sounds from previous generations. Each theme recreated the visual style and audio cues of its respective console. The PS1 theme featured the original console on the home screen, while the PS2, PS3, and PS4 themes replicated their unique menu designs and background animations.
