Here's a sentence I never thought I'd write: there's a live-action Toys "R" Us movie in the works.

According to Variety, Story Kitchen — the team behind numerous successful video game movie adaptations, including the Sonic the Hedgehog films — is set to bring to life the essence of childhood wonder through a modern, fast-paced adventure. This project aims to celebrate the over 70 years of Toys 'R' Us' impact on the toy industry.

“Toys 'R' Us is a cultural touchstone that continues to resonate with the child in all of us today,” said Story Kitchen co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg. “As kids of the '80s who cherished Toys 'R' Us as one of the most magical places on Earth, we’re thrilled to partner on a film that will encapsulate the spirit of adventure, creativity, and nostalgia that the brand represents.”

While casting details remain under wraps, the production team includes Johnson, Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, and Elena Sandoval from Story Kitchen, along with Kim Miller Olko from Toys "R" Us Studios.

“As Toys 'R' Us' inaugural film, this project marks an exhilarating opportunity to translate the magic of our brand to the cinema,” stated Miller Olko, president of Toys "R" Us Studios. “The film will embark on a journey as limitless as play itself, capturing the exhilarating sense of wonder that defines Toys 'R' Us. It promises to ignite imagination, adventure, and joy, resonating with kids of all ages.”

Last year, Story Kitchen announced a film adaptation of Square Enix's Just Cause, with Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto at the helm. The studio is also working on adaptations of Dredge: The Movie, Kingmakers, and Sleeping Dogs.
