After a successful closed alpha phase, Smite 2's open beta is now accessible for free on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Steam Deck. Alongside the launch of the free-to-play open beta, Titan Forge Games has rolled out a significant patch for Smite 2, introducing new gods, game modes, and a wealth of new content.
Announced a year ago, Smite 2 promises an enhanced sequel to the beloved third-person MOBA, leveraging the power of Unreal Engine 5. The game boasts refined visuals and improved combat mechanics, alongside a revamped item shop that allows players to access a variety of items regardless of their chosen god’s classification. As with the original Smite, players assume the roles of gods from diverse cultures, engaging in 5v5 battles on expansive maps to siege the enemy team. Now, following the closed alpha, the game is open to everyone.
As of January 14, Smite 2's open beta became available across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (via Epic Games Store and Steam), and Steam Deck, where players can download the game at no cost. This update introduces a plethora of new content, including Aladdin, a god specifically crafted for Smite 2. Aladdin brings unique abilities, such as running along walls and reviving after death thanks to his companion’s three wishes. True to his legendary origins, Aladdin’s ultimate ability involves using his lamp to capture enemies and force them into a 1v1 duel.
The other gods joining the Smite 2 roster are Geb, the Egyptian God of Earth; Mulan, the Chinese Ascendant Warrior; Agni, from the Hindu Pantheon; and Ullr, from the Norse Pantheon. Alongside these gods, Smite 2 reintroduces the popular Joust mode, a 3v3 battle on a smaller map. The Conquest map and an alpha version of the Assault game mode are also available in the open beta.
Titan Forge Games’ creative director emphasized that Smite 2 is a significant improvement over its predecessor in many aspects. The developer expressed gratitude to the community for their feedback during the closed alpha phase and teased "ambitious content" planned for 2025.
While Smite 2 is available on nearly every major platform, Nintendo Switch users won't be able to play the game due to performance concerns. However, Titan Forge Games has hinted at the possibility of bringing Smite 2 to the Switch 2 in the future. Meanwhile, Smite enthusiasts can dive into the open beta and experience this exciting sequel.
