The excitement among Hollow Knight fans has been reignited due to intriguing posts by William Pellen, one of the game's creators, on Twitter (X). On January 15, 2025, Pellen teased fans with a cryptic message: "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow." This post was likely hinting at the leaked reveal of the Switch 2 on January 16, 2025. Naturally, fans speculated about the possibility of Silksong news, and Pellen's subsequent actions only intensified the buzz.

On the day of the Switch 2 announcement, Pellen updated his Twitter profile picture to a slice of cake. A reverse image search revealed that the image was from a Bon Appetit article about the Brooklyn Blackout Cake, published on April 2, 2024—the same date as the upcoming Nintendo Direct. Pellen's comment on the article, "mmmm tasty," along with fan interactions mentioning Silksong, added fuel to the speculation fire. One fan even promised to bake the cake if Silksong news was announced by April 2, 2025, while another praised the cake's "silky texture," cleverly tying it to the game and the upcoming Switch 2 Direct.

While there's no confirmation that Pellen was the one who commented on the recipe article, his profile picture change is undeniable, suggesting he might be hinting at something—or perhaps nothing at all.

Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Official Announcement Five Years Ago

Hollow Knight: Silksong was officially announced on February 14, 2019, planned for release across multiple platforms including Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. This sequel follows the adventures of Hornet in a new kingdom themed around silk and song.

In December 2019, Team Cherry showcased the game's soundtrack by Christopher Larkin, but then went silent for over two years. The silence was broken in February 2022 when Pellen reassured fans that the game was still in development, promising updates as the release date approached. By June 2022, a new trailer was released during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, revealing fresh gameplay and confirming the game's availability on Game Pass upon launch.

Despite expectations for a 2023 release, Team Cherry's Matthew Griffin announced a delay in May 2023, stating, "We had planned to release in the 1st half of 2023, but development is still continuing. We're excited by how the game is shaping up, and it's gotten quite big, so we want to take the time to make the game as good as we can."

Even after over five years, the Hollow Knight community remains fervent, actively engaging in forums and eagerly seeking any updates on Silksong. However, since the delay announcement, information has been scarce, with the development team focused on perfecting the game.
