Hollow Era Tips and Tricks
At the start of Hollow Era, you begin as a Soul Spirit. To become a Shinigami, visit the NPC named Hurt Shinigami who is seeking assistance. Accepting her quest commits you to the Shinigami path, preventing you from progressing as a Hollow—unless you later become a Visored. If you're set on playing as a Hollow, refer to our separate guide on Hollow progression.
Your initial quest as a Shinigami involves purifying 6 Lost Souls, a task that aligns with maintaining the balance between life and death. Next, you'll pick up a quest from an NPC near Hurt Shinigami to deliver a letter to a Doctor near the hospital.
Strategize your skill point allocation to maximize your Shinigami Reiatsu. The Reiastu Skill Tree features powerful Kido abilities exclusive to Shinigami.
Kido and Reiatsu Nodes enhance your damage output and maximum Reiatsu, respectively. Here are the Kido abilities:
Caja Negacion: Shoots a beam of lightning from your finger, spreading electricity with the Electric modifier.
Shakkaho: Forms a red energy ball in your hand, exploding on impact. The Ragdoll modifier enables knocking back opponents, while Fire sets them ablaze.
Chain Bind: Summons energy chains to pull enemies toward you.
Prison of Light: Encircles the enemy with six light rods, immobilizing them—ideal for agile foes.
Thunder Sear: Releases a slow-moving lightning ball that deals electric damage and explodes on contact, perfect for crowd control.
To acquire Shikai, reach level 15 and visit Urihiro for the Shikai Training quest. Defeat Urahara Kisuke to earn 1,700 exp and unlock Shikai powers.
Warning: Ensure your hero is well-equipped; otherwise, defeating Kisuke at level 15 might be challenging. If needed, grind to level 25 or higher before attempting this quest.
Upon unlocking Shikai, your weapon gains a random mighty ability. If unsatisfied with your sword's power, visit Urahara Shop to re-roll it for a fee.
The game's Rage Bar fills with damage dealt or taken. Activate Shikai by pressing Y (default keybind) when the bar is full. Shikai deactivates when you deplete your Reiatsu or release the key.
Your Shikai Mastery Level increases with Mastery Points earned by using Shikai Skills. Higher Mastery Levels reduce Rage consumption and enhance your abilities with different aura effects and character appearances:
Mastery Level 1: 1-149 Points. Grants Transparent Aura.
Mastery Level 2: 150-299 Points. Grants a brighter aura with particles.
Mastery Level 3: 300-499 Points. Grants a Lightning boost.
Mastery Level 4: 500+ Points. Grants a zone of flying stones around you.
Once you choose the Shinigami path, you can't revert to Hollow. However, becoming a Visored allows you to break the barrier between Hollow and Shinigami using your Hollow Mask.
Reach level 50 to unlock the Vizard fighting style. Visit the Vizard’s Warehouse to start the quest. To fully become a Visored, you'll need Hogyoku, obtained by defeating the King of Hueco Mundo with a 1% drop rate. This is the first step toward Visored progression.
As a Visored, you gain Mask Control to reduce the chance of Hollow control and extend mask-wear time with the Visored node, boosting your damage output.
Hollow Mask: Control your inner Hollow with this mask.
Cero: Charge a beam of Reiatsu for significant damage.
Final Cero: Pin and crush enemies with an overhead Cero.
Vasto Rage: Temporarily transform into the most powerful Hollow type.
Currently, Bankai is not available in Hollow Era. Given the game's popularity, future updates may include it, though no release date has been confirmed.
Use the lockup button to target enemies during disorienting combat, especially when the game experiences bugs and lag. Learn to block enemy attacks early to mitigate damage, as your vitality bar refills slowly.
Upon death, you'll lose some money, and the trek back to quest targets can be long. Invest in bus teleport if possible. Prioritize Strength and Speed when allocating Skill Points for initial damage and mobility.
Press and hold J (default keybind) to reveal markers around Karakura with your Reiatsu sense. If repetitive gameplay bothers you, the Shinigami path is less grind-intensive than the Hollow path.
This concludes our Hollow Era Shinigami progression guide. Keep in mind that the game is still in development, so expect bugs and lag. To give yourself an early boost, don't forget to redeem Hollow Era codes!
