Restored 'Days Gone' Swoops at $10 for PS5 Players

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 23,2025

Sony's recent State of Play showcased Days Gone Remastered, but its $10 upgrade policy has sparked controversy among PlayStation Plus subscribers. The $10 upgrade to the PS5 remaster is only available to those who purchased the PlayStation 4 version (disc or digital). PS Plus subscribers who redeemed the game through the service (either PS Plus Collection or the April 2021 Essential offering) are ineligible for the discounted upgrade and must pay the full $49.99 price.

This decision has prompted widespread online criticism. Many PS Plus subscribers express their willingness to pay the $10 upgrade but are now unwilling to purchase the game at full price. Several Reddit comments highlight the potential lost revenue from this restriction. One user, squarejellyfish_, points out that Sony could have generated significant revenue even from those who might only play for a short time. Others echo this sentiment, stating they would have paid for the upgrade but will not purchase the game otherwise. The perceived stinginess is further fueled by the fact that Sony previously offered the game for free through PS Plus.

While some acknowledge Sony's likely financial calculations behind this decision, the company is facing criticism for its perceived lack of generosity towards its loyal fanbase. The Days Gone Remastered upgrade policy serves as a case study in the complexities of balancing profitability with customer goodwill.
