R.E.P.O. Console Release Update: What We Know So Far

R.E.P.O., a co-op horror game launched in February, has gained massive popularity, with over 200,000 PC players. Curious about a console version? Here’s the latest.

Will R.E.P.O. Be Available on Consoles?

R.E.P.O. has no confirmed console release and may stay exclusive to PC. Developer semiwork hasn’t hinted at console plans, focusing instead on perfecting the game’s multiplayer. They’ve encountered challenges in this area.

The team is tackling issues with multiplayer mechanics, essential to R.E.P.O.’s design, while ensuring the game remains free from cheaters, a persistent problem in online play.

“Matchmaking lobbies face hacker issues. An anti-cheat system could disrupt modders, as mods don’t function with anti-cheat measures, which we want to avoid,” the developer explained (via PCGamer). Resolving this is their priority before any console port considerations.

While single-player PC games like Mouthwashing have made it to consoles, multiplayer titles like Lethal Company and Content Warning, which share R.E.P.O.’s monster-dodging premise, remain PC-only. Last year, Content Warning’s developers explored a console release but hit technical roadblocks, with no updates since.

In summary, R.E.P.O.’s developer has shown no interest in a console release, prioritizing enhancements to the PC version’s multiplayer experience.
