Author:Kristen Update:Feb 18,2025

Pokémon TCG Pocket's captivating card art has captivated players for months, but recently, a fascinating discovery has emerged: subtle details linking certain Pokémon cards to the classic Game Boy games.

The investigation began when Reddit user asch_win highlighted the Spearow card's background. The seemingly innocuous scene of grass, a fence, and trees actually features Celadon City's Department Store (from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen) and a section of Route 16, a known Spearow habitat.

This intentional referencing of iconic locations isn't limited to Spearow. Reddit user jteede uncovered further connections, including a Diglett card situated near Vermillion City and a Haunter card positioned by Lavender Town's tower. Asch_win also revealed location-specific references within several Supporter cards.

Most card backgrounds depict Pokémon in fantastical settings, seemingly unrelated to established lore. Some, like a Pikachu card, mirror real-world collectible cards. However, many cards within Pokémon TCG Pocket contain these cleverly hidden Easter eggs, sparking a community-wide search for more.

Recent discoveries include the S.S. Anne on a Gyarados full-art card, and a connected narrative featuring Oddish, Venonat, and Bellsprout cards set near the seaside Snorlax location from FireRed and LeafGreen.

Since its October launch, Pokémon TCG Pocket has released one additional booster expansion, Mythical Island, bringing the total to four. More expansions are anticipated, with additional cards introduced through Wonder Pick Events and updates. As Creatures Inc. and DeNA continue to expand the card roster, players are eagerly anticipating more hidden references.
