The new trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 has just dropped, and it's packed with exciting connections to the Superman universe. The trailer opens with a scene featuring Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner / Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl. They are seen interviewing John Cena's character, Peacemaker, for a potential spot on a superhero team. The interview takes a sour turn, leaving Peacemaker visibly dejected as he storms out.

This trailer offers fans their first glimpse of these supporting characters, who are also slated to appear in James Gunn's upcoming Superman movie. The inclusion of these characters underscores the interconnected nature of the new DCU.

Peacemaker Season 2 is set to premiere on August 21 on Max, following the release of Superman on July 11. This makes it the third entry in the revamped DCU, which kicked off with the Creature Commandos TV series late last year. The new cinematic universe, spearheaded by James Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, aims to distance itself from the criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), which included films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. However, some elements from the DCEU will carry over into the new DCU, with Peacemaker being a prime example. While Season 1 was part of the DCEU, Season 2 will be fully integrated into the new DCU.

James Gunn has emphasized that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," though it's not yet clear which specific elements will transition from the old to the new universe. He has confirmed that the entire Team Peacemaker will return with the same actors, including John Cena as Peacemaker, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.

Additionally, Gunn has stated that Peacemaker Season 2 will take place after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly impacting Peacemaker's storyline.
