PC Games Optimized for Controller Play

The reign of keyboard and mouse in PC gaming is undeniable, especially for genres like first-person shooters and strategy games that demand precision. However, some PC titles are surprisingly better suited to controllers. Reflex-heavy action games and those with a console heritage often benefit from gamepad controls.

While many PC releases strive for robust keyboard and mouse support, certain genres, particularly those built around fast-paced movement or melee combat, are naturally more comfortable with controllers. This is especially true for franchises that originated on consoles and later transitioned to PC.

The landscape of PC gaming is constantly evolving. 2024 saw several high-profile releases, including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Infinity Nikki, Marvel Rivals, Path of Exile 2, and Delta Force. While these mostly excel with keyboard and mouse, Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered offers a slightly enhanced experience with a gamepad, though the difference isn't dramatic.

Several upcoming PC games show promise for superior controller play:

  • Freedom Wars Remastered: A PS Vita revival echoing the Monster Hunter formula, likely best enjoyed with a controller.
  • Tales of Graces f Remastered: The Tales series consistently shines with gamepads, and this remaster is expected to follow suit.
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Given the predecessor's controller-centric PC experience and similar combat, a gamepad is anticipated to be the preferred control method.
  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2: Another PS5-to-PC port, suggesting a controller-first approach, although keyboard and mouse should still be functional.

A noteworthy 2024 Soulslike game has also been included in this review. See below for a direct link.
