Nintendo Switch 2: Genki's CES Mockup Reveals Key Details

Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key features. Based on a black market acquisition, the model accurately reflects the console's dimensions, showcasing a larger form factor approaching the size of the Valve Steam Deck.

Key features observed include seemingly magnetic Joy-Cons, a second USB-C port, and an enigmatic "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Cons in an interview with The Verge, explaining a release mechanism utilizing pins within each Joy-Con to disengage the magnetic connection. Despite the magnetic design, Tsai assures users of secure Joy-Con attachment during gameplay.

More than Meets the Eye: Optical Sensors and Dock Incompatibility

Further details emerged regarding the Joy-Cons' "mounting channel," which incorporates optical sensors. This suggests potential functionality as a mouse, supported by recently leaked Switch 2 images showing similar features.

While the Switch 2's increased size still allows it to physically fit within the existing Switch dock, design modifications prevent compatibility. The purpose and functionality of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remain undisclosed.
