Nintendo Switch 2: Power Up with a New Cable?

Rumors suggest the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 may require a more powerful charger than its predecessor. While leaks point to a design similar to the original Switch, a recent report indicates the new console will ship with a 60W power cord. This raises concerns about compatibility with the original Switch's charging cable.

Recent leaks have offered glimpses of the Switch 2, including images allegedly showing the console itself and its magnetic Joy-Con controllers. These images, while unverified, reinforce earlier speculation about the console's design and functionality.

A key detail emerging from journalist Laura Kate Dale's report (via VGC) focuses on the Switch 2's charging dock and its accompanying 60W power adapter. Using the original Switch's lower-wattage cable might be possible, but it's unlikely to be optimal for charging. Therefore, utilizing the included 60W cable is strongly recommended.

Charging Cable Compatibility Concerns

The potential incompatibility with the original Switch's charger isn't the only detail circulating about the upcoming console. Other rumors include developer kits being distributed, hinting at potential titles like a new Mario Kart and Project X Zone. Speculation on the Switch 2's graphical capabilities places it around the level of a PlayStation 4 Pro, although some sources suggest it might be slightly less powerful.

While Nintendo will include a charger with the Switch 2, users should be aware that the original Switch's charger may not provide sufficient power. This is especially important to remember should the included charger be lost or damaged.

Expected Release: Nintendo aims for a reveal by March 2025.
