Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet promises to offer players a significantly greater degree of freedom compared to the studio's previous works. Inspired by the likes of Elden Ring, the developers aim to incorporate similar open-world exploration mechanics. Journalist Ben Hanson has shared that the game will be set on a single expansive planet, where players will unravel the mysteries of a lost civilization and delve into a new religion, which will be central to the game's narrative. While it's not yet clear how closely the project will align with traditional open-world concepts, it's clear that the developers are steering away from the linear structures seen in their past projects.

The Heretic Prophet marks the studio's first venture into a game where players navigate the world solo, without companions or allies. Neil Druckmann emphasizes the studio's intention to evoke a profound sense of solitude within an uncharted universe, while also exploring themes of faith and religion in depth. The story unfolds in an alternate future on the planet Sempiria, which has been isolated from the rest of the galaxy for over 600 years. It is on this mysterious world that bounty hunter Jordan Moon arrives, driven by her contract.

Druckmann further notes that the development of the game has been influenced by titles such as Half-Life 2 and Monkey Island. This influence suggests a shift away from conventional guidance systems, moving towards a narrative style where players must piece together the story's fragments themselves.

The game was unveiled at The Game Awards 2024, but a release date has yet to be announced. Stay tuned for more updates on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, a title that promises to redefine the studio's approach to gaming.
