Monster Hunter Wilds Adds Real-Money Purchases

Author:Kristen Update:May 25,2025

Capcom's latest installment, Monster Hunter Wilds, introduces an innovative feature allowing players to customize their hunter and Palico appearances. However, this customization comes with a catch. While the initial edit is complimentary, any further changes require the purchase of Character Edit Vouchers. These vouchers are available in packs of three for $6 or as a comprehensive set for both characters at $10. Without these vouchers, players are limited to altering hairstyles, eyebrow color, makeup, and clothing, leaving core facial features untouched.

This monetization approach was not revealed during the game's early previews and only came to light last week through Capcom's social media announcements. Despite the controversies surrounding microtransactions and reported performance issues, Monster Hunter Wilds achieved a phenomenal launch, boasting over 1.3 million concurrent players on Steam.

Capcom has yet to respond to the community's feedback on this new model. Players have voiced their dissatisfaction, drawing unfavorable comparisons to previous Monster Hunter titles where appearance modifications were either freely available or earned through in-game currency. Many in the fanbase believe this new system detracts from a core element that defined the franchise's appeal.
