This revelation comes from several GameStop stock keeping units (SKUs) seemingly related to unannounced Switch 2 accessories. These SKUs, initially shared on Reddit, list "Switch 2 Exp Micro SD Card" products in 256GB and 512GB capacities. This strongly indicates compatibility with the microSD Express standard.

The implications are substantial. The current Nintendo Switch utilizes UHS-I microSD cards, offering transfer speeds around 95 MB/s. In contrast, microSD Express cards leverage the NVMe protocol, enabling transfer speeds approaching 985 MB/s – a nearly tenfold increase.
