GTA 6 Mapping Project Surges with Trailer 2: 'Information Overload'

Author:Kristen Update:May 30,2025

The long-running GTA 6 mapping project has gained significant momentum following the release of Trailer 2, with one of its key members revealing to IGN that it "really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The GTA 6 Mapping Discord, home to 370 active members (set to surpass 400 soon), is abuzz as participants dive into deciphering Trailer 2 and uncovering the wealth of new details it offers.

"It's an information overload—it really changes everything for us moving forward," Garza, who manages the Discord server, told IGN. "We have so much new content to work on, and we’re just scratching the surface."

PlayThe GTA 6 Mapping Discord originated after the massive leaks in September 2022 (believed by some to be hinted at by Rockstar at the beginning of Trailer 2). Its mission is to create the most accurate GTA 6 map possible, a task initially rooted in the leaks and December 2023’s Trailer 1. The latest iteration of the GTA 6 map, released by project leader DuPz0r in late March, is now outdated due to the influx of new details from Trailer 2, which has enabled a more precise and detailed effort.

DuPz0r shared the updated map via Twitter, signaling the team’s progress:

Rockstar not only confirmed plot details and introduced new characters but also unveiled 70 fresh GTA 6 screenshots. The trailer showcased locations within the state of Leonida, GTA 6's take on Florida, including Vice City (Miami), the tropical archipelago Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga, a prominent national landmark near the state’s northern border.

Volunteers are meticulously examining the trailer for exact locations of each scene and matching fictional spaces to their real-world counterparts to finalize the map. Once complete, DuPz0r will release an updated map, offering fans their clearest glimpse yet of what to expect when GTA 6 launches in May 2026.

If Rockstar releases additional assets or gameplay footage before then, the team will refine their work further. Only upon the game’s release will the accuracy of their efforts be fully validated.

Despite the excitement, the project remains under the shadow of potential legal action from Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company. Earlier this year, a modder behind a playable GTA 6 map recreation in GTA 5 halted development after facing a takedown notice from Take-Two. Last year, when asked about Take-Two’s stance, Garza expressed "some mild concern."

"This project has been ongoing for quite some time without direct interference," Garza noted. "I always consider the possibility of communication from them in the future. Since we don’t explicitly feature leaked materials, I doubt they’d target this specifically. They likely recognize the project generates interest in the game, which isn’t entirely negative. Should I receive a cease-and-desist, I’d comply respectfully. As our map becomes more precise, there’s a chance such action could arise."

For now, fans eagerly anticipate updates while exploring the growing collection of GTA 6 discoveries and fan theories inspired by Trailer 2.
