GTA 6 Delayed to 2026: Top Games to Play in 2025

Author:Kristen Update:May 20,2025

The inevitable has finally occurred: GTA 6, arguably the most eagerly awaited game of all time, has been delayed from its original 2025 release date to May 26, 2026. However, that doesn't mean 2025 will be a letdown for gamers. On the contrary, it's already been a stellar year with outstanding releases like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Blue Prince, and Split Fiction, and the year is far from over. With numerous exciting titles on the horizon, including Ghost of Yotei for samurai enthusiasts, Borderlands 4 for co-op fans, and new releases from Nintendo, 2025 promises to be a thrilling year for gaming.

Here's a look at what you can expect in the remainder of 2025, aside from GTA 6:

What's next?

With GTA 6 originally slated for later in the year, you might not have cleared your gaming schedule for the upcoming months. But fret not, as some monumental releases are just around the corner. **Doom: The Dark Ages** is set to launch on May 15 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC, offering a gothic twist on the iconic shooter. Not long after, on May 30, **Elden Ring Nightreign** will hit Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, marking a thrilling co-op roguelike venture for FromSoft fans eager for a fresh take on their beloved formula.

In June, gear up for Hideo Kojima's next mind-bending journey with **Death Stranding 2: On the Beach**, arriving exclusively on PS5 on June 26. Its trailers suggest a game that will push boundaries far beyond its predecessor's delivery-centric gameplay. Also in June, **Dune: Awakening** will land on PC on June 10, promising an adventure filled with sandworm encounters and survival challenges.

Switch 2

With GTA 6 out of the picture, the launch of the **Nintendo Switch 2** on June 5 stands as the year's most significant event. It will debut alongside its flagship game, **Mario Kart World**, and enhanced editions of **The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild** and **Tears of the Kingdom**, offering improved resolutions and frame rates. The **Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour** will serve as an engaging tutorial through mini-games, while a slew of third-party titles like **Hogwarts Legacy**, **Split Fiction**, **Street Fighter 6**, **Yakuza 0 Director's Cut**, **Cyberpunk 2077**, and **Fortnite** will also be available.

The excitement continues into July with **Donkey Kong Bananza** on July 17, promising a delightful 3D platforming experience. Later in the year, look forward to **Metroid Prime 4: Beyond**, **Pokemon Legends: Z-A**, **Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment**, and the long-awaited **Hollow Knight: Silksong**, all set to grace the Switch 2 and other platforms.

Big Hitters

As the year draws to a close, expect a flurry of major releases leading into the holiday season. Though not officially announced, a new **Call of Duty** and **EA Sports FC 26** are likely to drop around this time. September will see the arrival of two blockbuster shooters: **Borderlands 4** on the 12th and **Marathon** on the 23rd. While Borderlands promises even more zany action and better gun drops, Marathon, an extraction shooter from the creators of Destiny, is one to watch closely.

On October 2, PlayStation fans can dive into **Ghost of Yotei**, a compelling follow-up to Tsushima, featuring a revenge-driven plot against shadowy samurai. Other highly anticipated games like **The Outer Worlds 2** and **Crimson Desert** are expected to release later in the year, though specific dates remain unconfirmed.
