PlayStation Productions Unveils Ambitious Slate of Game Adaptations at CES 2025

PlayStation Productions made a significant splash at CES 2025, announcing a wave of new video game adaptations slated for release in 2025 and beyond. The January 7th presentation showcased a diverse range of projects, highlighting the studio's expanding reach in the entertainment industry.

New Adaptations Announced:

• Ghost of Tsushima: Legends (Anime Series): A new anime series based on the popular Ghost of Tsushima multiplayer mode, Legends, is in development with Crunchyroll and Aniplex, set to premiere exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027. Takanobu Mizumo will direct, with Gen Urobuchi handling story composition. Sony Music will contribute to the soundtrack.

• Horizon Zero Dawn (Film): Sony Pictures will produce a film adaptation of the critically acclaimed Horizon Zero Dawn.

• Helldivers 2 (Film): Columbia Pictures will handle the film adaptation of Helldivers 2. Details on both Horizon Zero Dawn and Helldivers 2 films remain scarce.

• Until Dawn (Film): A film adaptation of Until Dawn is set for release on April 25, 2025.

• The Last of Us Season Two (TV Series): Neil Druckmann revealed a new trailer for The Last of Us season two, expanding on the story from The Last of Us Part II and introducing characters like Abby and Dina.

Past Successes and Ongoing Projects:

PlayStation Productions has a growing track record of successful video game adaptations, including the Uncharted film (2022), the Gran Turismo film (2023), and the Twisted Metal series (2023). While some earlier adaptations like Resident Evil and Silent Hill received mixed critical reception, the recent projects have demonstrated strong box office and viewership performance.

The studio is also actively developing adaptations of Days Gone, a sequel to the Uncharted film, and a God of War television series. The Twisted Metal series is also confirmed to have a second season in production, though a release date is yet to be announced.
