George R.R. Martin Calls Game of Thrones Show a Knight of the Seven Kingdoms 'As Faithful an Adaptation as a Reasonable Man Could Hope For'

George R.R. Martin, author of A Song of Ice and Fire, has declared his enthusiasm for the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, calling it "as faithful an adaptation as one could reasonably expect."

In a recent blog post, Martin revealed that HBO has completed filming for the six-episode series, anticipating a release later this year, possibly in the fall. Unlike the previous spin-off, House of the Dragon, Martin expressed significant approval.

"Having viewed all six episodes (the final two in rough cuts), I was captivated," Martin wrote. "Dunk and Egg have always been personal favorites, and the actors portraying them are exceptionally talented. The entire cast delivers outstanding performances. You'll be especially impressed by the Laughing Storm and Tanselle Too-Tall."

The series adapts The Hedge Knight, the first novella in the Dunk and Egg series. Martin emphasized its fidelity to the source material, acknowledging his own (often jokingly cited) standards for adaptations.

However, he cautioned viewers expecting high-octane action. "While a thrilling fight sequence is included, this isn't a spectacle-driven show," he explained. "No dragons, massive battles, or White Walkers. It's character-driven, emphasizing duty, honor, and chivalry."

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms stars Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and Dexter Sol Ansell as Prince Aegon Targaryen (Egg). HBO has already released promotional images and a short teaser trailer.

Martin concluded his post with a playful reminder about his ongoing work on The Winds of Winter, and his future plans for the Dunk and Egg stories: "Next up is 'The Sworn Sword,' followed by 'The Village Hero,' and the rest of their adventures. I'm sure you'll all keep me on schedule."
