Hello fellow gamers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for August 29th, 2024! Today's roundup features a substantial lineup of new releases, forming the core of this Thursday's update. We'll also explore a noteworthy selection of new sales. Let's dive into the games!
The Famicom Detective Club returns after a long hiatus with a brand-new case. Staying true to the originals, this installment offers a fresh mystery with a presentation reminiscent of the Switch remakes. Can you crack the latest serial murder case? My review is coming soon.
Mikhail's comprehensive review provides an in-depth look at Gundam Breaker 4's gameplay and Switch performance. In short: build and battle Gunplas! While the Switch port naturally lags behind other versions, it's still a satisfying experience. Check out Mikhail's excellent review for the full scoop.
Tengo Project continues its impressive streak of remakes. Shadow of the Ninja – Reborn takes an 8-bit classic and gives it a modern twist, resulting in a significantly different experience compared to its predecessors. If you crave a classic-style action-platformer, this is a solid choice. My review drops early next week.
A departure from its predecessor, Valfaris: Mecha Therion is a 2.5D side-scrolling shooter. While the genre shift might surprise some, it's a worthwhile experience. Embrace the change, and you'll discover much to enjoy. Review coming soon!
I'll admit, I'm not entirely sure what this game entails, but the food imagery is undeniably appealing. Is it about taking photos, uncovering secrets, or something else entirely? Perhaps Mikhail will investigate further.
For fans of monster trucks, Monster Jam Showdown offers local and online multiplayer, numerous game modes, and plenty of action. While reception on other platforms has been mixed, it might appeal to those seeking a monster truck fix.
This appears to be a remake of the original WitchSpring, a mobile title often compared to the Atelier series. At this price point, however, it approaches the cost of a full-fledged Atelier game, making the value proposition less clear. Still, it's the most polished WitchSpring yet.
An underwater exploration game with a fantastical horror twist. Unravel the mystery of your missing crew by exploring a vast, dangerous underwater world. Combat is involved. Well-received on other platforms, it's likely to find a dedicated following on Switch.
Voltaire, a vegan vampire, rebels against his bloodthirsty father. Gameplay involves farming and combat, a familiar combination on the Switch. While I'm personally a bit fatigued by this genre, it might appeal to those with a taste for farming simulators with a twist.
A marble roller game featuring seventy stages and eighty marbles to collect. Secret collectibles and special challenges add to the replayability. If you enjoy high-speed marble rolling, this game delivers.
A kid-friendly firefighting game with twenty missions. While other firefighting games on Switch tend toward realism, this one offers a more approachable style for younger players.
A grotesque action game starring a hoverboarding cat. While the core gameplay is reportedly solid, the Switch version suffers from technical issues affecting the overall experience. Consider carefully if framerate problems are a concern.
A 1985 Konami vertical shooter featuring a transforming robot protagonist. A charming, retro shooter in the style of post-Xevious, pre-Tiger Heli games.
An early expansion pack for Xanadu, featuring a new underworld to explore. Gameplay is similar to the original, but more challenging. Notable for featuring the debut work of legendary composer Yuzo Koshiro.
A blend of horror, survival, and roguelite elements. Best experienced with up to ten online players. Solo play might be more niche due to its repetitive nature.
A clever puzzle game starring a sentient tin can battling worms. One hundred handcrafted puzzles keep things fresh and engaging. A strong contender for puzzle game enthusiasts.
Two NES-style microgames featuring ninja-themed challenges. Competitive local multiplayer or CPU battles.
A surprisingly enjoyable puzzle game with two modes: falling blocks and wood block placement. The goal is to create rows or columns where dice faces add up to multiples of ten.
