While the PS5 is nearing the midpoint of its lifecycle, the possibility of a PS6 release remains uncertain. However, the developers have assured fans that FF7 Remake Part 3 will launch on the current generation console initially.

Square Enix remains tight-lipped about the release date. Development, however, commenced alongside FF7 Rebirth, with full production accelerating post-February 2024 release. Leveraging assets from previous games and a completed story outline suggests a potentially imminent release. Hamaguchi, in a January 23, 2025 Famitsu interview, reported smooth progress, stating development is on schedule. Kitase expressed satisfaction with the completed storyline, hinting at a satisfying conclusion for fans.

A March 6, 2024 Washington Post report indicated PlayStation secured timed exclusivity for the FF7 Remake trilogy. Following the precedent set by previous installments, a PS5 exclusive launch for a specified period before a multi-platform release is highly probable.

Despite positive reception, Square Enix's HD title sales are declining, prompting a shift towards a multi-platform strategy. Their March 31, 2024 financial report highlighted plans to expand across Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms to boost sales.
