Fan-Made Epic: Mario and Sonic Collide in Cinematic Adventure

A dream matchup for many: Sonic and Mario facing off on the silver screen! Fans have long championed a collaboration between Sega and Nintendo, and KH Studio has answered the call with a captivating concept trailer. This exciting preview pits the iconic duo against each other, replacing the whimsical Mushroom Kingdom with Sonic's high-octane world, offering a glimpse into what a combined franchise film could achieve.

Inspired by the phenomenal box office success of the Super Mario Bros. and Sonic the Hedgehog movies – a combined gross exceeding $2 billion globally – the creators crafted this compelling trailer.

While a true crossover featuring Nintendo and Sega's mascots remains unlikely due to their storied rivalry, the concept clearly resonates deeply with fans.

For now, audiences can anticipate sequels to both beloved franchises: Super Mario Bros. at the Movies 2 in 2026 and Sonic 4 at the Movies in 2027.

Separately, December saw the announcement of a partnership between McDonald's, Sega, and Paramount. This collaboration brought Sonic toys to the United States, following the 2022 release of Sonic toys. Initial speculation focused on a potential tie-in with the third Sonic film, but McDonald's surprised fans by first unveiling a unique Sonic toy line for Colombian consumers. The campaign featured twelve distinct hedgehog designs, initially not slated for a US release. However, McDonald's later confirmed US availability. Each Sonic Happy Meal includes a special Sonic the Hedgehog 3 toy, alongside a side, a drink, and a choice of Chicken McNuggets or a hamburger.
