Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Essential Guide

For fans of classic JRPGs, Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake is a nostalgic trip back to the series' roots. However, its old-school difficulty demands strategic planning. Here are some tips to conquer Baramos:

Master the Personality Test

At the game's start, "She Who Watches Over All" presents a personality quiz. This determines your hero's stat growth, significantly impacting gameplay. While you can alter personality with certain accessories, restarting for your preferred stats is simpler. The optimal personality, "Vamp," is exclusive to female heroes.

Customize Your Party

In Aliahan, bypass Patty's pre-set party. On the second floor, speak to the counter attendant to create a custom team, selecting classes Patty omits. Even if using Patty's suggestions, doing so upstairs lets you allocate stats and influence personalities, creating superior party members. Crucially, always include a Priest for healing magic.

Acquire Essential Weapons

Early-game equipment is costly, so powerful weapons are vital. Seek the Boomerang (Dreamer's Tower, third floor chest) and Thorn Whip (Aliahan well, requires two Mini Medals from Morgan Minimann). Four Mini Medals are readily available in the opening hours. These weapons' multi-enemy attack capability makes them invaluable for the Hero and a strength-based character like a Warrior or Martial Artist.

Direct Party Actions

Many RPGs offer party control, but Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake initially relies on AI. Access the Tactics menu during combat and change your party's behavior to "Follow Orders" for greater control and tactical flexibility.

Stock Up on Chimaera Wings

Early enemies can inflict heavy damage. Fast travel is unavailable until the Zoom spell (usually unlocked around Hero level 8). Until then, keep Chimaera Wings (25 gold each) for quick travel to previously visited locations, even within dungeons, ensuring wounded party members can receive timely healing.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is available on PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
