Yakuza: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii Launches Free New Game+

Key Highlights

  • Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will receive its New Game Plus mode as a free post-launch update.
  • Unlike Infinite Wealth that restricted NG+ to premium editions, Pirate Yakuza adopts a more fan-friendly approach.

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio announces that New Game Plus functionality for Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will launch as complimentary downloadable content. This Hawaiian adventure follows fan-favorite character Goro Majima's wild pirate exploits after the events of Infinite Wealth.

While Infinite Wealth garnered critical acclaim as one of 2024's top RPGs, its controversial decision to limit New Game Plus to the highest-tier editions sparked player frustration. Despite fan outcry, the studio maintained this policy - making Pirate Yakuza's inclusive approach particularly noteworthy.

The recent Like a Dragon Direct presentation showcased 13 minutes of naval combat, crew management, and other gameplay elements. While confirming NG+ would be freely added post-launch, the studio hasn't yet specified an exact update timeline.

Pirate Yakuza's Free New Game Plus Represents a Consumer-Friendly Shift

While premium editions traditionally offer cosmetic extras, locking substantial gameplay features behind paywalls often draws criticism. RGG Studio appears to be listening to fan feedback by making NG+ universally accessible this time. Though players must wait for implementation, the timing should align well with completion of initial playthroughs given the series' characteristic depth.

With launch scheduled for February 21, anticipation builds for Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. Fans can expect additional previews through Ryu Ga Gotoku's official channels as the release date approaches.
