How to Beat Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

The Quematrice, a giant chicken-like monster reminiscent of the Cockatrice, is a mid-sized foe that fortunately breathes fire instead of petrifying its victims. Here’s what you need to know to take it down:

Weaknesses: The Quematrice is particularly vulnerable to water-based attacks, making water elemental weapons your best bet. Its lack of specific resistances means you have a broad range of weapons to choose from, but those with a bit of range might be preferable due to the monster's area-based attacks.

Immunities: Sonic Bombs won’t affect the Quematrice, so leave those at home.

Notable Attacks: The Quematrice's tail strikes and sweeps can be damaging, but the tail slam is the most dangerous when you’re positioned behind it. It lifts its tail high before slamming it down, so sidestep or block to avoid this attack. More critically, watch out for its fire-based attacks. These not only deal direct damage but can also set you on fire, causing continuous health drain, and ignite the ground. The fire attacks can be frontal, with the Quematrice rearing its head and roaring before igniting a flame from its tail, or a full sweep around it after a similar roar. It can also charge at you, turning at the last moment to fling fire in your direction. If you’re fighting at range, start moving backward as soon as you see these moves to avoid getting hit.

How to Capture Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing Quematrice in Monster Hunter Wilds

Capturing the Quematrice requires the right preparation. You’ll need both a Shock Trap and a Pitfall Trap, along with at least two Tranq Bombs. While only one trap is technically necessary, having a backup is crucial in *Monster Hunter* games, especially if the monster flees or another creature triggers it.

To capture, weaken the Quematrice until it starts limping or you see the skull icon appear and disappear on the mini-map. Wait until it retreats to a new area for easier capture. Set your trap, lure the Quematrice into it, and then throw two Tranq Bombs to secure your catch.
