In *Assassin's Creed Shadows*, The Tournament is not just a thrilling challenge but also a fantastic source of XP and an opportunity to earn the "Test Your Might" trophy. Here's your comprehensive guide on how to unlock, navigate, and conquer The Tournament.

How to Unlock and Find The Tournament in Assassin's Creed Shadows

Screenshot by The Escapist In *Assassin's Creed Shadows*, your journey to The Tournament begins with Gyoji, a resident of Yamato. After you've taken down several members of The Shinbakufu, Gyoji will be waiting outside your hideout, eager to discuss the tournament. This secret fighting arena is tucked away at the Ominesanji Temple in Southeastern Yamato. To make your visits more convenient, we recommend synchronizing with the Ominesanji Overlook viewpoint to the west, creating a fast travel point.

Once you reach the Ominesanji Temple, reconnect with Gyoji. He'll brief you on the challenge ahead: four intense one-on-one duels, culminating in a battle against the ultimate champion. After the cutscene, simply ring the bell to kick off your first fight.

How to Complete The Tournament in Assassin's Creed Shadows

The Tournament is a gauntlet of high-stakes, life-or-death encounters. Fortunately, you can take breaks between fights, ringing the bell to initiate the next battle when you're ready. Use these intervals to heal with rations, and consider upgrading your weapons and armor to stay ahead.

To triumph in each duel, we suggest wielding a long katana as Yasuke. Focus on dodging and parrying to expose your opponents' vulnerabilities. Don't hesitate to deploy abilities like Power Dash and Payback when your adrenaline is high enough.

Knowing your opponents' weapons can give you an edge. Here's a rundown of the fighters you'll face:

  • Lady Masago wields a Naginata.
  • Lord Suguru uses a Katana.
  • Lord Hokuto fights with a Kanabo.
  • Lady O-Sen dual-wields Poison Katanas and uses ranged items.
  • Lord Unkai also uses a Naginata and can heal by drinking if you keep your distance.

After defeating all challengers, meet Gyoji once more on the hill. He'll express his gratitude and promise future tournaments. It's during this conversation that the "Test Your Might" trophy should unlock.

Best Loadout and Skills for Tournaments in Assassin's Creed Shadows

Yasuke's best armor for The Tournament, Screenshot by The EscapistThe long katana is your weapon of choice for The Tournament. Equip the highest rarity you possess and upgrade it at the blacksmith to its maximum potential. Engravings that boost Armor Damage or Armor Piercing can significantly enhance your performance.

Your armor choice is crucial. Before entering the tournament, ensure you've unlocked the Samurai Daimyo Armor of Legend by defeating The Ox, a member of the Shinbakufu. Also, acquire the Protector's Armor by completing a castle mission. The former offers a 75% damage boost at the cost of limiting your health to 25%, while the latter allows you to parry unblockable attacks. Combining these engravings can turn you into a formidable force, capable of defeating tournament foes in under a minute if you master the art of parrying.

Invest your Mastery points wisely in the Long Katana and Samurai skill trees. Max out Combat Expert to amplify your melee damage, and ensure you unlock Power Dash and Payback for an added advantage in combat.

*Assassin's Creed Shadows* is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S from March 20th.
