Civilization 7: Gandhi's Fate Uncertain

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 23,2025

Civilization 7's release has left many veteran players questioning the absence of a familiar face: Mahatma Gandhi. A staple of the Civilization series since its inception in 1991, Gandhi's omission is notable. This absence, however, is not a permanent one.

According to Civilization 7 lead designer Ed Beach, Gandhi's return is planned as DLC. Beach assures players that previously featured civilizations, including Great Britain, are also on the roadmap, though their inclusion will be part of a longer-term strategy. He explains that Firaxis strategically balances the inclusion of iconic leaders with the introduction of fresh, exciting options, necessitating some omissions from the base game. Previous iterations saw notable absences like Mongolia and Persia, which were later added.

While the community awaits Gandhi's return, Firaxis is addressing player concerns regarding Civilization 7's reception. The game's "mixed" Steam reviews, citing issues with the user interface, map variety, and missing features, are being acknowledged. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, while acknowledging negative feedback, expressed confidence in the game's long-term success and the eventual acceptance of the game by the established fanbase.

For players looking to conquer the world in Civilization 7, resources are available to aid their efforts. Guides covering victory strategies, key differences from Civ 6, common mistakes to avoid, map types, and difficulty settings are readily accessible.
