The first is the Standard Kart, where you start by assembling a LEGO Technic mesh, secured by pins and reinforced with bricks, to create the Kart's floorboard. Next, you attach the body shell components using rods and clamps, including rockets/exhaust pipes, side panels, and the steering mechanism, which doubles as the Kart's front exterior.

The steering mechanism is particularly noteworthy for its blend of form and function. It attaches to the front of the set via clamps and folds onto the hood, mimicking a storm door on a hinge. When you turn the steering wheel, the front wheels move in sync, enhancing the interactive experience.

Despite its seemingly simple appearance, the Kart's construction involves numerous small, intricate steps that culminate in a sophisticated final product. This juxtaposition of complexity and playful design is a testament to the set's charm.

Following the Kart, you build Mario, using a construction method similar to The Mighty Bowser set from three years ago. You begin with the torso, utilizing ball-and-socket connections, then attach the legs, arms, and finally the head and hat. The hat, with its bent shape, is the most intricate part, requiring the assembly of two smaller builds to achieve its iconic look.

Building Mario allows you to appreciate the finer details, such as the hair peeking out from under his hat, the markings on his gloves, and the rolled-up cuffs on his jeans. Unfortunately, Mario cannot be detached from the Kart; his torso is anchored directly to a gray plate attached to the Kart's seat. While this design choice is understandable, it may disappoint some fans hoping for a standalone Mario figure. However, this could inspire creative DIY projects to modify the model.

The completed set is visually stunning. The Kart sits on a buildable stand that can be tilted and rotated 360 degrees, allowing for dynamic posing. Whether you position Mario gripping the steering wheel or celebrating with a "Whoo-hoo!" gesture, the set offers endless display possibilities.
