Larian Studios' Baldur's Gate 3 has seen an explosive surge in mod usage following the release of Patch 7. The update, launched on September 5th, unleashed a torrent of community creativity.

Larian CEO Swen Vincke proudly announced on X (formerly Twitter) that over one million mods were installed within 24 hours. This was further amplified by Scott Reismanis, founder of ModDB and mod.io, who reported the number exceeding three million installs and still climbing. "Modding is pretty big," Vincke stated, underlining the game's robust modding community.

Patch 7 itself introduced significant content, including new evil endings, enhanced split-screen, and a crucial addition: Larian's integrated Mod Manager. This in-game tool simplifies mod browsing, installation, and management for players.

The standalone modding toolkit, accessible via Steam, utilizes Larian's Osiris scripting language, empowering modders to craft custom narratives, incorporate scripts, and debug their creations, all with direct publishing capabilities.

Cross-Platform Modding on the Horizon

While Larian initially exercised caution regarding full access to its development tools, a community-created "BG3 Toolkit Unlocked" (by modder Siegfre on Nexus) has expanded modding capabilities, including a level editor and reactivated features. Vincke confirmed Larian's commitment to cross-platform modding, acknowledging the complexity of implementing this feature across PC and consoles. The PC version will lead the way, with console support following after thorough testing and submission processes.

Beyond modding, Patch 7 boasts UI improvements, refined animations, expanded dialogue, and substantial bug fixes and performance enhancements. Future updates promise further developments, including likely updates on the cross-platform modding initiative.
