Author:Kristen Update:May 14,2025

Larian Studios has announced the much-anticipated Patch 8 for Baldur’s Gate 3, set to launch on Tuesday, April 15. This patch, which has been in stress testing for a while, is now ready for all players to enjoy.

Patch 8 brings a significant amount of new content to the critically acclaimed Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game. Among the exciting additions are 12 new subclasses, a photo mode, cross-play functionality, and split-screen support for Xbox Series S. For a detailed look at all the changes, check out the Baldur's Gate 3 Patch 8 patch notes.

Here’s a breakdown of the new subclasses included in Patch 8:

Bard - College of Glamour
As a College of Glamour Bard, you gain the ability to heal allies and control enemies. With Mantle of Inspiration, you can grant allies 5 temporary hit points, and if an enemy attacks while this is active, they become Charmed. Utilize Mantle of Majesty to command these charmed enemies to flee, approach, freeze, drop to the ground, or drop their weapon.

Barbarian - Path of Giants
Choosing the Path of Giants enhances your strength and size through the Giant’s Rage passive, allowing for increased damage with Throw attacks and a higher carry capacity.

Cleric - Death Domain
As a Death Domain Cleric, you'll wield dark powers, including spells that deal necrotic damage and three new necromancy cantrips. Toll The Dead causes 1-8 damage, scaling if the target is already injured, and you can now explode nearby corpses to damage enemies.

Druid - Circle of Stars
Circle of Stars Druids harness celestial power through three Starry Forms: the Archer for radiant damage, the Chalice for healing, and the Dragon for enhanced constitution rolls, each enhancing different playstyles.

Paladin - Oath of the Crown
Dedicated to upholding the law, Oath of the Crown Paladins can guide allies with Righteous Clarity, taunt enemies, and support their party with Divine Allegiance, absorbing damage and restoring health.

Fighter - Arcane Archer
Arcane Archers combine magic and archery, with abilities to banish foes to the Feywild or deal Psychic damage that may blind enemies.

Monk - Drunken Master
As a Drunken Master Monk, consume alcohol to recover Ki, and use Intoxicating Strike to boost your Armour Class and hit chance against drunk enemies. Sobering Realisation deals physical and Psychic damage to sober targets.

Ranger - Swarmkeeper
Swarmkeeper Rangers command three swarms: Cloud of Jellyfish for lightning damage, Flurry of Moths for Psychic damage and potential blindness, and Legion of Bees for piercing damage and knockback, each also granting teleportation.

Rogue - Swashbuckler
Swashbuckler Rogues can blind enemies with sand, disarm them with a flick of their weapon, and use Fancy Footwork to avoid opportunity attacks.

Sorcerer - Shadow Magic
Shadow Magic Sorcerers excel in darkness, gaining Superior Darkvision, the ability to Shadow Walk, summon a Hound of Ill Omen, and use Strength of the Grave to avoid being downed.

Warlock - Hexblade
Hexblade Warlocks forge pacts with Shadowfell entities, cursing enemies and raising spirits from slain foes to deal necrotic damage and heal themselves.

Wizard - Bladesinging
Bladesinging Wizards merge swordplay and spellcasting, gaining new spell animations, a Bladesong ability for speed and agility, and a bonus to Constitution saving throws.

18 ImagesPatch 8 marks the final major update for Baldur’s Gate 3, concluding a successful run for Larian Studios. The game launched to critical acclaim and strong sales in 2023, continuing to perform well into 2025.

Larian has announced their departure from the Baldur’s Gate and Dungeons & Dragons franchise to focus on a new, undisclosed project, leaving fans eager for more information. Meanwhile, Hasbro, the owner of D&D, has expressed interest in continuing the Baldur’s Gate series. Speaking at the Game Developers Conference, Hasbro's SVP of digital games, Dan Ayoub, hinted at future plans but did not confirm whether it would be a new game or another type of project. Ayoub expressed a desire for a Baldur’s Gate 4 but emphasized a measured approach to its development.

To celebrate the release of Patch 8, Larian will host a Twitch livestream with senior systems designer Ross Stephens, who will discuss the new changes and additions in detail.
