Anointing Guide for Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2)

Author:Kristen Update:May 05,2025

In the thrilling world of *Path of Exile 2*, enhancing your character's power is crucial, and anointing is a key mechanic to achieve this. Anointing in *Path of Exile 2* involves using Distilled Emotions on your amulets and Waystones, but this feature becomes available later in the game as you need to obtain Distilled Emotions first. If you're familiar with the original *Path of Exile*, you'll recognize Distilled Emotions as the equivalent of Blight Oils. There are ten types of Distilled Emotions: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering.

The primary method to acquire Distilled Emotions is by completing Delirium Maps, which reward you with a random selection of these emotions. Alternatively, you can obtain them through currency exchange or the trade market. For those looking to refine their collection, the Reforging Bench allows you to upgrade Distilled Emotions. By combining three of the same type, you can craft an upgraded version of that emotion, giving you more control over your anointing process.

For players seeking a challenge, Simulacrum waves offer a chance to drop Distilled Emotions, though this method is less efficient than Delirium Maps and requires a robust build to handle the increased difficulty.

How To Anoint Items in Path of Exile 2

Anointing is currently limited to Waystones and amulets, though future updates during Early Access may expand these options. To anoint an amulet, choose any Distilled Emotion to access the Instilling window. Place the amulet in the central slot, and then position a Distilled Emotion in each of the three slots below it. The specific emotions needed for the desired anointing effect are detailed in the Passive Skill Tree. Simply hover over a Notable Passive Skill and press alt on your keyboard or R3 on your controller to see the requirements.

The skills you choose to anoint should align with your current build, but remember, anointing isn't permanent. You can re-anoint your amulet by repeating the process, allowing the new skill to override the old one and adapt to your evolving build.

Similarly, you can anoint Waystones to make them more challenging, which in turn increases the quality of loot they drop. Keep in mind, however, that neither amulets nor Waystones can be anointed if they are corrupted.

With this guide, you're now equipped to enhance your amulets through anointing, boosting your build's effectiveness, or challenge yourself further by anointing a Waystone in *Path of Exile 2*.

*Path of Exile 2 is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.*
